With everything going on in Austin, where should one start to explore? While this list only scratches the surface, here are some of our favorite things to do in Austin.
If you have ever been to Austin during the summer months, you know that it gets hot! The best way to cool down from the summer sun is a dip in our little oasis, Barton Springs Pool. Barton Springs Pool is located inside Zilker Park, measures at three acres in size, and is fed from underground springs. The natural spring fed water maintains an average temperature of 68 – 70 degrees, making Barton Springs Pool ideal for year-round swimming. Barton Springs Pool attracts people from all walks of life, and if you are lucky, you might spot a celebrity.
Austin loves festivals. We have a festival for just about everything. If you aren’t in town during one of the major festivals like ACL or SXSW, chances are there is some sort of festival happening. Here are some of our favorites:
Austin is home to many amazing BBQ restaurants, so make sure you try some while you are here. Anthony Bourdain said that Franklin BBQ had “the finest brisket I’ve ever had”, but make sure you arrive early at this Austin staple because you will wait in a long line, and it sells out daily! Take a short scenic drive outside of the city limits to eat unlimited BBQ ‘Family Style’ at The Saltlick in Driftwood, TX. Another local favorite is la Barbecue that serves their juicy offerings out of a food truck.
Austin has many amazing local breweries and wineries that lets you tour the facility and enjoy their offerings in their own taproom. Our favorite place to enjoy some of Austin’s finest brews are Live Oak and Jester King, but there are many to choose from! For more info, see this extensive list of breweries in the greater Austin area.
