How to select the perfect vacation rental in Georgia

Welcome to historic Georgia. Proud to be one of the original 13 colonies, Georgia offers 240+ years of rich history and memorabilia of the bygone days. At the heart of it, lies Savannah—the oldest city in the state. Each year, Savannah attracts visitors from all around the world to walk its cobblestone streets, tour the Historic District, and soak in the stories that piece together the history of America. True to its nickname, the Peach State, visitors and locals alike also indulge in picking their own stone fruit during the summer. For those craving a beach vacation, Tybee Island offers a mix of its own rich history as a military outpost with its reputation as a beach resort town, dating back to the 1800s. Take a dip in the year-round warm waters, go for a walk down it’s 5 miles of sandy beaches, or visit the Tybee Island Light Station to get a panoramic view of the whole coast.

Not sure where to start? Check out the best destinations in the state for history buffs, peach lovers, and beach goers—there’s something for everyone in Georgia.

  1. Explore the largest National Historic Landmark District in the countryWith its dedication to commemorating the past, Savannah’s Historic District is every history buff’s dream. Hop on an Old Town Trolley Tour to see the city’s top attractions, including the Bull Street Corridor, Madison Square, and Bay Street. If you happen to visit on the first Friday of every month, head to River Street to see the city celebrate with food, fun, and fireworks.
  2. Visit the oldest public art museum in the SoutheastLocated within the historic district, Savannah’s Telfair Museum consists of two National Historic Landmark buildings from 1820; the Telfair Academy and the Owens-Thomas House. It also includes the Jepson Center, which houses unique exhibitions, tours and collections throughout the year.
  3. Pick your own peachesNo trip to the Peach State is complete until you’ve tried its authentic stone fruit. Several farms in the surrounding counties have partnered with the U-Picks Farms organization to offer locals and visitors alike the opportunity to pick their own produce.
  4. Visit the Tybee Island Light StationBuilt in 1736 and 145 feet tall, the lighthouse is Georgia’s oldest and tallest of its kind. Watch a sunset from the top while on a private tour or visit the Tybee Island Museum located in one of its cottages on the ground floor. Established in 1961, the Tybee Museum showcases the rich history of the area. Don’t forget to visit the nearby beach, for 5 miles of sand and year-round warm waters.
  5. Learn about marine life at the Tybee Island Marine Science CenterBecause the center offers classes for all ages year-round, it’s the perfect day trip for families. During the summer, children six to eleven years old can enroll in Sea Camp, while the Walks, Talks, & Treks offer hands-on programs about Georgia’s tides, dunes, and area wildlife.
