How to select the perfect vacation rental in Nevada

Contrary to popular belief, Nevada has so much more to offer than just gambling and nightlife at the famed “Sin City.” Head way up north to where Nevada shares the iconic Lake Tahoe with California and watch the scenery change from miles of desert into an oasis. Along Lake Tahoe, Nevada offers paddle boarding and hiking during the summer and skiing during the winter. Incline Village’s beaches, such as Incline Beach and Sand Harbor, offer swimming and other water-related activities. The town’s community-owned Diamond Peak Ski resort offers family-friendly skiing and other mountain activities. Further south, Zephyr Cove boasts picturesque cruises on Emerald Bay, adventure at Grover Hot Springs State Park, and historical sites all along the east shore of Lake Tahoe.

Not sure where to start? Check out the best destinations in the state for beach goers, history buffs, and skiers—there’s something for everyone in Nevada.

  1. Go for a swim at the beaches of Incline Village.Located on the edge of Lake Tahoe, Incline Village is home to relaxing beaches with incredible views. Lounge around at Sand Harbor, or spend the day paddle boarding at Incline Beach. Incline Beach also has a grilling area where you can set up for a picnic or barbecue. Check out the Lake Tahoe State Park—home of Spooner Lake—for a natural oasis surrounded by aspens and more than 12,000 acres of forested, open space.
  2. Hit the slopes at Diamond Peak Ski Resort.Close to downtown Incline Village, the Diamond Peak Ski Resort offers 6 chairlifts, 30 runs, open glades, and tree skiing on its 655 acres of terrain. The resort is community-owned and boasts affordable lift tickets and a dedicated Child Ski Center—making it a perfect destination for families.
  3. Embark on a cruise of Emerald Bay from Zephyr Cove. The Zephyr Cove Resort offers multiple cruises throughout the day on the scenic Emerald Bay. The Daytime Scenic Cruise was voted the Best Cruise in Nevada by Nevada Magazine. There’s also a Sunset Cruise and a sipping at Sundown Cruise, as well.
  4. Take a dip in the hot springs at Grover Hot Springs State Park.Located on the edge of the Great Basin Province, Grover Hot Springs State Park is home to an open pine forest and plenty of meadows and Nevada’s official state plant, sagebrush. The park boats a pool complex that includes a hot pool, a regular pool, hot springs, a campground, a picnic area, and hiking trails.
  5. Visit historical landmarks around the east shore of Lake Tahoe.Lake Tahoe is rich with history. Visit the rustic Ehrman Mansion, a house built in 1903 that now serves as a museum. There’s also the Tallac Historic Site, the remains of what was once the “Grandest Resort in the World” a century ago. To see one of the best examples of Scandinavian architecture in North America, visit the Vikingsholm Castle, a Norse fortress originally built in 1929 along the Emerald Bay.
