How to pick the perfect vacation rental in Hilton Head

Gorgeous coastal island Hilton Head has plenty to offer to the 2.25 million people who visit it annually; the island boasts 12 miles of beaches along the Atlantic Ocean, more than 24 golf courses, 300 tennis courts, and hundreds of restaurants to sample. Learn about South Carolina’s rich history at the Coastal Discovery Museum, relax on the beach at Coligny Beach Park, and venture into the great outdoors at the Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge.

Follow these tips to help you pick the perfect Hilton Head vacation rental for your travel plans.

  1. Where to stay to enjoy the beach. If you’re hoping to enjoy the warm waters of the South Carolina coast, your best bet is Coligny Beach Park—Hilton Head’s largest and most popular beach. Look for properties along South Forest Beach Drive. For a less touristy experience, stay near Alder Lane, Burkes Beach, Chaplin Community Park, Folly Field Beach Park, or Islanders Beach Park. All of those options still have public access but are more secluded than Coligny.
  2. Where to stay near the Shelter Cove Towne Centre. The Shelter Cove Towne Centre isn’t just for locals, it’s a hot spot for visitors looking to enjoy shopping, a wide variety of eateries, and contemporary homes to rent. Located off William Hilton Parkway, the centre overlooks Broad Creek and also features two lagoons and a new park.
  3. Where to stay near Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge. Located just half a mile away from Hilton Head, Pinckney Island is a free destination perfect for folks looking to fish, hunt white-tailed deer, see wildlife, and hike around its 14 miles of trails. To be in close proximity of the refuge—without staying on the island, which has no drinking water or toilet facilities—stay near the Hilton Head harbor and US 278 West, because the refuge entrance is located just half a mile north of the bridge.
  4. Where to stay when golfing. Golfing is a popular pastime in Hilton Head and there are over 20 courses located all over the island. Whether you are hoping to improve your game at the Golf Academy of Hilton Head Island at Sea Pines or a pro wanting to visit the best courses, such as the Harbour Town Golf Linkes, stay in Harbour Town.
  5. How to choose your own Hilton Head rental experience. Whether you’re looking for a beach getaway, to learn about the rich history of South Carolina, or an outdoorsy adventure—Hilton Head has you covered. Stay along the south coast for the best beaches, along the harbor and marina for the best water sports options, and in the middle of the island for more accessible shopping and museum options.
